Regional
character
of the programme

The programme started for the first time as a pilot
project in 1999 in the Republic of Macedonia. Soon afterwards,
because of the schools' interest and the support of the
Education Development Bureau, the programme was extended
to the whole territory of the Republic of Macedonia.
Today it covers all the primary schools and preschool
institutions in the Republic of Macedonia.
At the end of the year 2000 and during 2001, the programme
was extended to all primary schools in Kosovo with the
cooperation of the departments of Education and Ecology
of UNMIK. The materials were translated in Serbian, Albanian,
and Romany, and distributed in Kosovo's schools, in the
classes from 1 st to 8 th grade.
In the year 2002, the programme continued on the territory
of the Republic of Serbia, and the local Ministries of
Education and Sport, and Environment and Natural Resources
protection supported it. Pupils from 7 municipalities got
the necessary materials in their mother tongue, and are
using them in the educational process with the help of
their teachers.
